The rugged Ludlow clan -- father William (Anthony Hopkins) and brothers Alfred (Aidan Quinn), Tristan (Brad Pitt) and Samuel (Henry Thomas) -- splinters when Sam goes off to fight in World War I despite his father's opposition.
